| | bouncy | ] | I entered a short story contest on one of my favorite forums, Halforum (http://www.halforum.com). In the contest you can write any short story and you would win all the graphic novels to my favorite Web comic "Order of the Stick." (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0668.html) So I put a story together and sent it in.
Little did I know that I WON!!!
I will now be getting all the graphic novels to the Order of the Stick as my prize!
Below is the winning short story.
The Lich and the Ruby
Roy wiped the sweat off his brow. His lungs hurt and body ached. He had been practicing all day and it was wearing him down. The sky swirled in darkness as he ran through his moves and strikes once more. Roy’s body moved into a thrusting stance and his heel slipped on a loose stone. He caught himself and nearly dropped his sword. Curses poured from his mouth. Time was not being kind to him and he could feel it with every passing day. There was a glint of light in the distance. Roy squinted and could see a lone figure running toward him from the distance. Red lighting flashed and lit up the sky. Elan crossed the distance in minutes. He fell to his knees when he reached Roy, trying to catch his breath. Roy helped his friend up and tried to keep the concern from his eyes. Elan looked like a shell of a man. His eyes were sunken in, face scarred and hair had turned a ghostly white. “No goblins. No soldiers. There is nothing in the valley. Xykon is just standing right in the middle like a statue.” Elan huffed. “He is waiting for us?” Roy took out his canteen and passed it to Elan. “I don’t know.” Elan took a gulp of water. “I don’t know anything anymore.” “We will do this. We will stop this.” Roy tried to sound positive. “Does it matter? Xykon already won.” “When Durkon gets back, we will rest and strike tomorrow.” Elan pushed white hair away from his face. He wanted tears to roll down his face once more like a waterfall during spring time. But the rivers of love which flowed through him dried up a long time ago. He laid down on his sleeping bag and tried to gain some rest for the worthless battle ahead of him.
***
Belkar fiddled with a ruby as the group tried to make sense of the current plan. The rest of the group huddled around a large oak table with a map pinned to it. Elan tried to pick up one of the little metal pieces but Roy smacked the back of his hand. Elan put it back down with a sad look. “It doesn’t make sense Roy. Why would Xykon push his forces pass the Hellfire Volcano? Either he is going to split his forces to attack two different cities or he is trying to confuse us.” Haley reasoned. “Aye, the lass is right. Xykon knows we have a large enough army to push him back.” Durkon took a swig of mead. “He hasn’t moved in two days. I think he is preparing. If we attack in the morning, we might upset his plans. If we can cover both routes, we can push his goblins back into the volcano.” Elan took Haley’s hand into his and gave it a light squeeze. “Roy, do you feel it’s going to work?” Roy looked into Elan’s eyes and nodded. Elan smiled. “Then I’m in!”
Images swirled into chaos. Darkness and red splashed onto Elan’s face as he opened his eyes into a nightmare. Haley was letting loose arrow after arrow into the horde. Durkon’s hammer smashed goblin skull after goblin skull. Roy was a mad man in battle, his sword slicing through monsters like water. Belkar was no where to be seen. Elan ducked and dodged incoming blades and arrows. He moved like a dancer through the enemy. His blade taking down every creature that stood too close. Despite all their skills, the battle was going badly. Roy shouted to Haley. She nodded and reached for a red arrow from her quiver. Elan kept moving. Like a whirlwind, he drove back any creature close to Haley. The battle grew more intense as Xykon moved through his ranks. His power had grown to such a degree once he channeled the Snarl. Red lighting flashed with every step he took and the ground shook like the earth would fly apart at any moment. Haley aimed at Xykon. It was easy, his body crackled with red energy. His undead body was generating so much heat, monsters would burst into flames if they stood too close. Time seemed to slow down just for this one point. The red arrow Haley aimed was fused from fallen god blood. Should it strike another god, the explosion would be enough to destroy everything for a hundred miles in every direction. They all knew going in, this would mean the end of them but it was sacrifice most of them would make. Haley’s muscles tensed. Her hand started to bleed from holding the arrow back. Roy, Elan and Durkon stood their ground with thousands of soldiers who volunteered. Their bodies acted like a wall against the horde of creatures trying to kill one woman with an arrow that slays gods. Haley let out a breath and let the arrow fly. It darted across the sky. Elan slashed a goblin and as the creature’s body fell, Elan could see a red streak across the sky as the arrow reached Xykon. He smiled as the arrow struck home and exploded. Elan’s body relaxed. He stared at Haley and for a moment waited for the explosion to take their lives.
The explosion never came.
Elan looked and stared in horror as Xykon held the energy in a pillar of darkness. The explosion flowed like a river and shot skyward. There was a bright flash. Elan shielded his eyes. Xykon laughed and his energy started to glow and strike in all directions. Soldiers were thrown like rag dolls. Roy stood steadfast as an energy bolt struck him. His body didn’t even shake but blood poured down his arm. Elan tried to fight through the melee to get to Haley. They had to get out of there. They had to retreat. Xykon was going to kill them all. Haley had her jaw clenched as she started to swing arrows out of her quiver and let them loose. “Haley!” Elan shouted. Xykon took notice and turned his glowing red eyes on Haley. His skeletal hands opened and energy began to pour. The volcano behind Xykon began to rumble and a torrent of lava shot up into the sky. “NO!” Elan screamed. The lava swirled like a living serpent in the sky. The end formed into a dragon head and pointed its gaze at Haley. It streamed down in a blink of an eye. Xykon continued to laugh as the sky filled with molten lava. A large shard of lava fell from the sky toward Haley. Her eyes turned to Elan. Elan could see fear grip her. He tried to push toward her. A goblin hammer glanced off his head. Élan went into a spin and hit the ground. A kobold jumped on the fallen Elan and started stabbing at his face and neck. A fist wrapped around the creature’s neck and broke it with a squeeze. Elan looked up and saw Haley on the ground, with Belkar lying next to her. His body was steaming and burnt. Durkon threw the dead kobold away and helped Elan up. “I cannea` believe it! Belkar saved Haley. He knocked her out of the way before the lava hit her!” Elan ran to Haley. She wrapped her arms around him as he helped her up. They both turned to Belkar as he lay on the ground smoking. When they drew close they could see he was missing an arm and his body was badly burned. Balkar coughed. “I made a ..…..” his eyes rolled into his head. His hand opened up and a small ruby rolled out. “Durkon! Can you bring him back?” yelled Haley. Before anyone could make a move, there was a flash and Xykon stood before them. Energy spilled from his body as his undead form stared at Haley. “You all do make me laugh.” Xykon reached forward and touched Haley. She never even had a chance to scream. Color drained from her body. Her eyes and hair turned white as she fell to the ground lifeless. Xykon laughed and heard a crunch. Elan had stabbed his sword into the lich and was twisting the blade. Xykon back handed Elan with such force, his body went airborne. Everything turned into images. Horrible laughter, Roy yelling, taste of blood, shards of lava falling from the sky, something glowing in his hand and a terrible voice yelling into the darken sky. “Her soul belongs to me! You will never see it again. Not in this life or the next!”
***
Elan woke with a start. His hands went to his eyes but still the tears would not come. Eleven years had passed since that battle where Xykon took Haley away. Eleven years of searching and fighting. Eleven years of wanting to die but could not because he knew in heaven he would not be reunited with his dear Haley. Roy and Durkon had just woken and they all looked at each other. “Let’s go.” whispered Roy.
The valley was silent as Xykon stood still as a statue. Energy flowed off his skeletal form and his glowing eyes never moved. Two men and a dwarf slowly approached from three different sides to make a triangle around the lich. The sky swirled with purple and red clouds. The valley was silent like a tomb. The three paused as they felt something intrude into their minds. “The last few cities will fall. I control the power of the Snarl and yet you three still think you can stop me.” “We have gained enough power over the years to take you on.” Roy growled. Xykon tilted his lich head. “Hero’s and their souls are soon parted.” The lich’s robes bellowed in the sudden wind. His hands rose up and energy began rise like smoke from bone and withered skin. “You have no idea why I am here in this valley?” “It doesn’t matter. We end it here.” Elan could hear a voice in his mind. Quickly it gave him instructions. Xykon gave a quick snort. “In this very valley two armies of mages, wizards, warlocks and witches fought a titanic battle. Their energies poisoned the entire valley. Nothing grows, life does not belong here. I will raise their bones to make the perfect army under my control….” Roy and Durkon darted toward Xykon. Roy’s sword punctured and shattered a few ribs of the lich. Durkon smashed his hammer into the glowing skull.
Xykon didn’t move from either blow. “..An army of lich’s!”
A wave of energy exploded from Xykon and flashed across the valley. Roy drew his sword and went to drive the blade down. Xykon caught the blade in his skeletal hand. Roy struggled to draw the blade back. The lich’s boney hands sharpened into points and drove them into Roy’s face. The lich could see Roy die, his soul slowly floating out of his body. The lich drew back and let Roy fall to the ground. Roy’s soul hovered and then a force of energy slammed the soul back into his fallen body. Roy opened his eyes. He was healed and already getting to his feet. Xykon turn to Durkon. “Nice trick. How many times can you do that?” Durkon smiled. “As many times as I need to.” The dwarf came at the lich. Red lightning bolts arced from Xykon’s hands, striking Durkon’s holy aura. The ground rumbled and shook. Skeletal hands burst from the black earth. The area flashed with energies as Durkon and Xykon went blow for blow. Roy ran forward but lichs began to crowd around with their glowing eyes and grasping boney hands. Roy’s sword struck true with every swing but they were surrounded. With a glowing fist, Xykon punched Durkon’s holy aura four times. The fourth time, the aura shattered. Durkon went flying into the earth. Lich’s piled onto the cleric. Their power so strong and evil so great, Durkon screamed as he was ripped to pieces. In a flash of a moment only the insane could see, Odin swooped down and took home one of his own. Roy continued to fight. His eye’s looked around wildly. Xykon was slowly walking over to Elan. The bard stood his ground. He had not made a move during the entire battle. His gaze never left the ground. “If you wish for me to take your soul, I will.” Xykon chuckled. “Your soul will be imprisoned with the billion other souls in my body. You can reunite with Haley. I will keep both of you as slaves in new bodies when my work here is done. Just say yes and you will be with your beloved.” Elan stared at the lich for a moment. “No. Haley will be coming with me!” Elan’s hand opened and a small red ruby fell to the ground and shattered. A blast of hot sulfur exploded across the valley. A hole opened up where the ruby fell. Elan slowly backed away with a jaunt as it grew wider. Xykon moved back and peered into the darkness. From the side, small hands emerged and pulled themselves up. Xykon stood motionless as he saw the Halfling Belkar climb up and stood at the edge of the pit. “Is it true? You made a deal?” Elan said softly “I made a deal with three demons. When I died I would be Hell’s avatar. I have the power of every evil warrior that ever existed, boiling in my body itching for a fight.” “Why would Hell need an avatar?” Xykon grinned. It was Belkar’s turn to laugh. “Because your holding onto many souls that belong in Hell. The higher ups want them where they belong.” Pain ripped through Belkars tiny form as he fell forward. Muscles began to grow and twist. Everything about him grew larger as he growled and pulsed. Xykon took a step back as Belkar’s form grew bigger and bigger. Tusks jutted out of his mouth and his blood shot eyes stared down at Xykon. “Plus, I need to get my friend out of your decaying ass.” Belkar roared as his hulking form charged Xykon. Red energy blasted at Belkar but it didn’t even slow him down. With fist clenched, Belkar pulled back and punched Xykon. The lich’s body soared into the sky and landed five hundred feet away into a cloud of dust. The army of lich’s swarmed Belkar. Bones shattered and skulls went flying as Belkar roared and destroyed each undead with one massive punch after another. Lighting bolts blasted at Hell’s new avatar but nothing slowed him down. Belkar had become a force of nature with Hell’s backing. Xykon emerged from the cloud with raised hands. Red energy streaked forward. Belkar turned to Xykon and matched his energy with his own. Xykon channeled the Snarl as Belkar channeled Hell. The streams of power were causing the area to rip apart. Roy tried to back off but lich’s started to swarm over him. Calmness passed over Roy as he looked over the battle field. He could feel the lich’s sapping his strength. He knew he wouldn’t get out of here. He looked over and could still see Elan standing in the middle of the fray, doing nothing. A tear rolled down Roy’s cheek as he used the last of his strength and heaved his sword into the air. It landed next to Elan’s feet with a sharp thud. “See you in the next life, Elan!” Roy yelled as his broke his amulet holding a drop of god’s blood. A drop of god’s blood was enough to destroy a smaller area then an arrow covered in it. Élan was knocked to the ground as the explosion ripped apart the area, blasting half of the lich army to dust. Belkar pushed forward as did Xykon, their energies wrecking havoc to everything close by. As they drew closer, the power between them grew more intense. “You will not stop me, Halfling! My power is that of a god!” screamed Xykon. Belkar pushed forward till he was on top of the lich, their power destroying everything around them. Hell infused all of its power into the monster Halfling as he was inches from the undead god. “You forget………I AM THE SEXY SHOELESS GOD OF WAR!” Belkar roared. Belkar drew back both his fists. He clamped them together and swung them with such force, the ground shook for a thousand miles. When they struck Xykon, Belkar not only punched through his form, but his very being in this universe. The lich shattered in an explosion of dust and bones. The resulting energy flew in every direction. Xykon’s skull flew through the air and in one last effort pulled the energy together and aimed it back at Belkar in the form of a lance. It struck Belkar’s being and ripped it into nothingness. What was left of the lich army, fell to the blacken ground and the valley was once again still as a tomb. Xykon’s skull laughed as it lay on the ground. “Even with your best, I still live! My body will grow back. This world will be mine!” Then Xykon heard a scarping noise. Elan slowly moved toward the fallen lich, dragging Roy’s blade in the rocky ground. His eyes fixed on what was left of Xykon. “Pitiful.” Xykon laughed. Elan smiled. “The Snarl has left you.” “I will draw its power back to me with time. You still cannot destroy me. I will re-grow my body and continue. I have all the time in the world.” “No, you don’t.” Elan stood over the skull and gazed at it for a moment. “Roy’s sword is an undead slayer. It destroys any undead which come in contact with it.” Xykon was silent. “Without the Snarl to make you a god, you are just another piece of undead garbage.” Elan lifted up the sword. “I will give you anything.” Xykon said flatly. “Give me Haley!” Elan brought the sword down and sliced Xykon’s skull in two. There was no flash, no explosion. The pieces fell side to side and silence. Elan fell to his knees and looked down. Light began to glow from the last two pieces of Xykon. Tiny orbs of light began to rise up and float into the sky. Elan looked in wonder as millions of tiny lights rose up into the darken sky. There was a flash of an image, a beautiful image of Haley as she stood there with a smile on her face. Happiness flooded Elan’s mind, body and soul. He smiled as he looked up at the pillar of lights ascending into the sky. His body had taken so much damage from pain and anguish his heart couldn’t take it anymore. It stopped beating and Elan died as he looked up into the sky, with tears in his eyes. |

| Ghost... |

| | gloomy | ] | *I wrote this in Halforum today. I had been meaning to write about this experience but for some reason I held off. It bothers me and for a while I was afraid to write for fear of upsetting Andrea. I had talked to her a few weeks ago and she gave me the okay. For some strange reason....I finally decided to share it. What is below is a cut a past of what I wrote.
People have many different views on many things. My personal belief is something else though. As romantic as it is to believe in ghosts and other worldly things, I cant say I am a believer or a skeptic...maybe im both...its really hard to pin down. I have seen many things that just seem to mess with your mind but I am not the type of person to run off and yell "GHOST! GHOST! I SAW A GHOST!".
The human mind can manufacture many things. People can make themselves see whatever they want to see if the conditions are right. If you look at complete darkness, your mind will try to fill the void and make sense of the blank slate.
I like to write about this subject only because of the romantic nature of it. I am willing to put it out there but I wont defend or attack what someone has seen or felt. I have my share of stories but in the vastness of the time, space and the internet..it really just becomes another story.
The story can be tragic, beautiful, fearful or poetic..but it is just that..a story. It is how you take that story and apply it to you life is how wonderful or dismal it may effect you.
Ugh...I guess I should get back on topic...This subject kind of hits home with me at times.
My girlfriend and i were home one night. We had been drinking most of the night and we were afraid of getting sick while we slept. My girl was worried because we had talked and I brought up how one of my friends had died from choking on his own vomit. She was afraid to fall asleep as was I. I had drifted off and then a short time later I woke up. I saw my girlfriends mother sitting next to our bed. She was patting our legs and giving me a very kind look. I fell back asleep and slept very well to the morning. When me and my girl woke, we talked for a bit. I told her what I saw and she started to tear up. My girl's mother has been dead for 5 years. Her hair was shorter but it looked like her in every way.
You can take whatever I wrote anyway you want. It was an experience and a personal one.
Just for some reason....I felt like sharing. |

| Cyber Crime Part Two |

| | tired | ] | I haven't written in a few days because I have been feeling down. Just trying to be optimistic when some stranger dived into my bank account and made away with money I felt was my security...isn't much fun.
I did have a moment of trying to figure it out on my own. The research was taking up my time on the different methods used to hack peoples accounts. How they get pin numbers and even press new cards so they can steal the cash without ever seeing your face.
On top of that, my bank isn't doing much to make me feel better. I am sure things like this happen all the time. I am just some number and several smaller numbers were taken away into the void.
I did manage to google map the place where they took my cash. It was a Citibank I had never been too and a creepy thought entered my head that I was looking online at a bank where the rogue came in and made off with the loot.
A big part of me wants to hunt down people like this but that would be a fool's errand. In a city this big, I have a better chance of finding Nessie.
The economy is going into pretty bad ground now and I bet more of these events will happen. I have talked to a few people and it seems everyone knows someone who was hit. I am not sure if it is all connected to when the Citibank server was hacked and information was taken.
Maybe as a regular citizen I should start an investigation. I don't like it when I sit back and things happen to me. When things like this happen, I need to move in a positive direction.

| The Borneo Monster.... |

| | curious | ] |

Now this is a monster I can believe in.
I of course came across this article about a 100 foot serpent in Borneo. If the picture is a fake then I would hazard a guess that it is a good one. There have been hoaxes about monsters for as far back as human kind can remember. But like anything, I am sure there is some basis in fact.
When I was younger, I had a passion and love for cryptids. They made me feel so good to think of creatures lurking in far out of the way places waiting to be discovered. I used to have piles of books about Nessie and other creatures. I would read them over and over again just so I can dream of discovering something not meant for human eyes.
The famous Surgeon photo from 1934 would make my mind wonder with delight. I still remember in 1994 when it finally came out that picture was a fake. It was one of the nails in the coffin of my beliefs. You could say that is why I am believer and a skeptic at the same time. I feel as time passes I am more of a skeptic.
I have no idea if the picture above is a fake or real but it does set the mind to drift a little. Again it brings up the questions, is this all there is to life? Have we seen all we can see?
I believe there is more to this life and the hunt does continue.

| Mad Gasser... |

| | curious | ] | The other night I was talking about how the moon had just a dramatic effect on me. I did have those feelings but I was also coming off a very long period of being sick. Simply put, I could have just started to feel better. I say this because I infact do feel better and stronger.
My mind drifted toward thoughts of insanity. The things that may drive us to such strange moments or even the genetic disposition of one's birth. I was discussing the MothMan with Andrea when for some reason a thought popped into my head about the Mad Gasser. (We had been talking about humanoid cryptids.) Andrea had never heard about the Mad Gasser so I spent some of the time explaining the myth.
In case you didnt know, The Mad Gasser was some disturbed person who pumped gas into people's homes as they slept. In essence trying to slowly poison them. They never found out if this was myth, legend or boogey man story. What always made my mind wonder was, this indeed could have happened. Despite the main stream way of killing people with bullets, poison, A-bombs, One could reach of point where they wanted to hurt their neighbors by slowly killing them with gas.
Serial killers fascinate people on all sorts of levels. Why couldnt something like this have happened? Is this doll house of humanity at such a point where things out of the norm are REALLY out of the norm?
I am sure people have been killing each other in all sorts of inventive ways but when a story such as the Mad Gasser comes along, its almost something surreal and fantasy like.
The moon, like anything else on this planet is a force in our lives. But so is everything we are and come in contact with. The mind is a fractured mirror and we just try to keep the pieces together.
Sleep tight....and make sure your windows are secured.

| | weird | ] | I felt weird all day yesterday. It was really bizarre. Often at times things didnt make sense. It felt every part of the day was some different colored bubble and I was passing from one to the other in some strange slow motion.
When I was walking home, I looked up and saw the full moon. I dont know if things like this effect anyone but It seems to have a huge effect on me. I have always loved water, the ocean, lakes, streams, Etc. I am a very sensitive person at times as well. I cant help but feel the pull of such a wonderful celestial body such as the moon. I mean it tugs and pulls away and has what would seem a dramatic effect not just on me but everyone around.
Or I could just be crazy. I dont know. No one has come up to me and said so.
This is day two of the full moon and I have felt strange and its driving me crazy. I have no idea what to do with myself and I cant just sleep it off because I didnt sleep well last night.
In case you were born in a cave. This is what I am talking about.
I may have to perform an experiment where I drink on a full moon and see what effect will have on what I say or do.
I would like to hear more of people's stories about the moon. I cannot be the only person on the entire planet feeling this way?
Can I?

| | awake | ] | I came across this article today.
The poor creature was washed ashore and was soon discovered by the locals. The one thing I love about this world is when people see things they dont see everyday, it becomes such a huge event. I can just imagine drunken sailors when they would catch or see some bizarre beast, their minds would be completely blown. To this day, the ocean is so big and vast, any number of creatures can be lurking in the depths of the sea.
I personally am glad this creature just washed ashore and wasnt caught in those nets they use to drag the ocean bottom with. We could use a little more discovering and a lot less greed.

| Zombies Part 1 |
[Feb. 4th, 2009|03:41 pm] |
| [ | mood |
| | sick | ] | I have been sick for a few days now and it feels like I am just starting to beat this virus back. Throwing up, body pain and fever are not fun things to do at any time. I spent a lot of time sleeping or watching tv. Not as fun as you would think.
During this "bad" time, I thought about a few things between me passing out and the TV dumbing me down. The one thought I had the most was about zombies.
To start off, I dont believe in the actual undead zombies you see in so many George Romero flicks. (Dont get me wrong, I love his movies!) I thought more about the realistic possibility of a virus or parasitic zombie outbreak.
The human mind and body are amazing machines in a genetic sense but so is everything else in the planet. Viruses and parasites have been know to change the way people behave and think so the virus can open up chances for it to spread. One such possibility is Toxoplasmosis. Essentially it is a parasitic disease that can change the behavior of it's host. Another virus that has made it into movies is rabies. The movie Quarantine did a very good job of showing the possibility of such an outbreak. I know, truth is stranger then fiction. Mind you, Toxoplasmosis is some what mild and there are treatments for rabies but that doesnt mean down the road, they or many other diseases will not become stronger.
I do at times wonder if we are standing on the edge of a precipice, ready to fall in that black abyss of chaos.
The important thing to remember here is knowledge will help you survive. I do hope in my heart of hearts that this will never happen.
I need to lay down before I pass out again.

Last week I was talking about a show called Lost Tapes. An interesting show but as I wrote before, it came off a bit fake. Andrea and I talked for a bit about the whole thing and decided to try our hand at making a video just like the show. We managed to put the above video together in an evening. It took about an hour to shoot and just 20 min to edit the thing together. We had a lot of fun and decided to put it out there for the world to see. I was surprised on the length of 6 minutes but we tried to get the mood down. I was hoping only to make it two minutes long.
There are a few times we tried not to laugh and really tried hard to be as serious as we could. I think we did a great job and as I said, it was a lot of fun. See it for yourself.

| | blah | ] | I started my day like any other day. I headed to work and was playing Nintendo DS while I was on the A train. (I was playing Advanced Wars if you must know.)
As I was playing, I heard a cough and some other guy start yelling about the cough. Then out of nowhere these two guys start beating the crap out of each other right in front of me. Everyone moved or jumped out of the way of these two idiots. I sat there and put my DS away because I didnt want it to get destroyed. I watched as these two guys then turned to wrestling.
These were the thoughts swimming in my head...
"These two idiots need to get this out of their system. Im just gonna wait here and watch until they tire themselves out."
In the back ground people were yelling and screaming. All this happening between 168th street and 145th street station. You swore that people were getting murdered from the sound of the people around me.
Finally a nice man broke up the fight. The guys stopped..for a moment. There was more yelling and they started fighting again. This time, I jumped up as the same time as a few other guys and we had to pull this bone heads apart. I simply grabbed an arm and pulled. There was more screaming and people banging on the windows as they pulled into the 145th station. It must have been a sight from the outside.
One guy left and took the train across the platform. The other stayed and was putting himself back together. The cops showed up and when they did, everyone pointed to the man that was left. He looked sorta normal but when the cops took him off the train he tried to fight the cops. I never saw anyone get slammed against a wall like this guy. The cuffs came out and was escorted away.
All in all, this made me late for work but when I told the story everything was forgiven. I was lucky I wasnt stabbed or shot but still, it did make the morning a little too interesting.
I love this city but it can get a little too exciting at times.

| | annoyed | ] | I sat down and watched two episodes back to back of Lost Tapes. I had a pad in my hand and my interests on what was playing on the TV screen.
I could get all long and drawn out but I think it would be best if I just put how I was feeling during the show in bullets.
The first episode was Oklahoma Octopus. It contained video of a group a friends hanging out by a large lake. There have been reports of giant octopi (Measuring as big as a horse no less) that are living in fresh water lakes and are dragging people to their depths. Lets let the bullets explain.
- The conversations with the people seemed scripted. The typical jock, token black guy, token Asian girl, The typical good guy and the pretty but emotional white girl.
- Too much melodrama.
- A quick pan and you see a tentacle flail in the water before the people start swimming. As far as I know, octopi dont flail their tentacles for no reason. Believe it was trying to get the attention of the camera person. It wants to be a star.
- Discussion of "Real" Lake monsters is pretty interesting but they give off basic info. Anyone who has ever read the subject would know what they are talking about.
- Why do the people yell at each other about their personal feelings on camera? I thought they were friends. Why do you want your bullshit on camera.
- Two people have been dragged under by the monster. If the creature is the size of a horse, the meat of two full size humans would keep its stomach full and make it pretty docile. Why does it keep trying to kill all of the teenagers? Does it know how I am feeling and is some how trying to help me as I watch?
- Its night and you see a tentacle lash out trying to kill the last two people. I was cheering for the creature but the last two people got away.
- This is really fake.
All I can say was it truly was an experience. But when it came down to it, felt fake the entire way through. Kudos for them putting this together but that is all I can give them.
The second story was on the Chupacabra. This one was even less interesting then the first.
- The family was a pretty generic spanish family.
- They have a great home. They are in the middle of a family celebration and the dad opens a letter. It seems they will be smuggled across the border. Who know that being smuggled across the border was like winning the lottery.
- The guy smuggling the family (A coyote as they are called.) decides to drop them in the desert and abandon them. No reason. Just drops the mother, father and daughter in the desert. No honor with smugglers I suppose.
- Father and Mother killed by a big dog like creature, AKA the Chupacabra.
- Was cheering again for the creature to finish off the little girl.
- Border patrol shows up and find the little girl. Her parents are found, drained of blood and three puncture wounds on their neck.
- Border Patrol finds dead animals in the area and something moves through the brush. They are spooked. They talk about a stink in the area. It could be just from those poor dead Mexicans who just quiet didnt make it, Chupacabra or not.
- They get the girl away and their superior's tell them the parents death was due to the desert. Everyone looks stupid in the end and spooked. I guess the creature had the last laugh in the end.
Oh, and one final note about the second story. I put in Google "Ramirez family chupacabra attack", just to see if there was at least one documented account of the attack from anywhere else. It came up zero. Stuff on Chupacabra attacks have been accounted for but nothing comes close to what this Lost Tape was about.
I have to say, I love things about sea serpents and lake monsters but these stories came off flat. No where near true. It even seemed they use the same camera crew for each story. Digital cameras are made by different companies. They tend to have different levels of picture quality. All three stories I saw looked like they were shot by the same camera.
I think there are better shows people can devote their time to. After seeing these few episodes, I think I can only watch the show if I have NOTHING to do.
My search will continue. This is only the first step in a very long road.

| Lost Tapes |
[Jan. 12th, 2009|08:07 pm] |

| | curious | ] | I have always had a bright eyed view when it comes to the paranormal and supernatural. I felt these elements were always in the background of our everyday world.
I came across this show Lost Tapes last Tuesday. I happened to be channel surfing and stopped on Animal Planet because it simply caught my attention.
After seeing part of the episode MONSTER OF MONTEREY, the entire thing could not leave my mind.
I tried to push the entire show from my thoughts but I couldn't resist. If you saw the episode then maybe you know what I am talking about. It felt fake. It came off as very unreal. It seemed that it was thrown together to mock the Blair Witch. To even attempt this project felt like a slap in the face to normal everyday people and their intelligence. Why would they do this? Why even put this forth into TV land and have the general public even remotely notice it on their tiny radars? These were my thoughts as I tried to wrestle with the fact I sat and watched the 22 minutes or so of this hulking, absurd monster.
For those who have no idea what I am going on about, The show Lost Tapes is about these tapes that have been recovered from strange encounters all over the world. They show people's moments of being chased by creatures that go bump in the night. The episode I saw was about women on a sailing trip by herself in the ocean. The boat gets bumped a number of times by something "unknown". As I watched there was a scene when she comes across another boat and there are bloody hand marks on the side of the ship. No one is around as she shouts out to the boat and it would seem the creature have taken the poor fools to Davey Jones locker. The show rapidly ends where this women out in the middle of the ocean in her sailing ship and accidentally falls overboard after the ship is bumped again by some mysterious creature. I would go into more detail but its killing me even to write this much. All in all, the poor woman is never seen again.
The entire thing felt like they got some low level actors together and said let's make the Blair Witch Project with cryptids. That's what the kids are watching now! Right?
But I now have to get into the part that really scares me. After spending a few days thinking about it, I realized how impressive a show like this is! Someone, somewhere sat down with other like minded people and said "Lets create this show!". They have a budget and hired people to act in this wonderfully awful project. In this respect, I love it. I love the fact that they made this a reality. They pulled it together and want to show it to the masses.
I am a skeptic and a believer at the same time. I do want to know the unknown but I will look at every possible explanation before I can say this is real or not. I have always had a love for creatures like The Loch Ness monster or The Lack Champlian monster. But there is the side of me that knows these are just creatures of dreams and fantasies.
Aside what what I think and know, I do want to know more about Lost Tapes. There is another episode on 1/13/09. I will do a little research and see if this was a one time fluke to get under my skin or it is truly a terrible idea that needs to locked away never to see the light of day again.
